After an hour of playing Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning:
- Combat looks promising.
- The graphics remind me of Fable 1, minus the kiddie / cartoonish feel.
- The PC version retains the console look, making the menus are a little annoying without a controller.
- Your starting point is High Octane Nightmare Fuel. Think Planescape: Torment but even more mortifying (see what I did there?). Recalling the memory was fun.
I’m liking it a lot so far. Let’s see if that holds over the weekend.

How did you like Kingdoms? I originally was very put off by the “No-jumping” aspect, as the most recent Final Fantasy MMO had the same thing, and I dropped that game instantly due to that. I was very much of the opinion “Hey now, this is like 2009, and there’s no jumping/swimming and invisible walls up the ass? Get with the times Square Enix!”
But you know what, it works well with Kingdoms once I got used to it, it was no problem. combat is flashy and interestingly interactive.
But I was only playing the Demo!

Hey Maul, wrote a quick review. The game’s pretty good if you like fighting a lot.
